Clockwork Motors.
Märklin produced the first Clockwork Motors for Meccano between 1911-1914. Stock was sold during the war till 1916. From 1916 on Meccano started production of Meccano Clockwork Motors similar to the Motor No 1 produced by Märklin.
Electric Motors.
In the 1914 manual illustrations can be found of the first mains (110 or 230 Volt) Meccano Electric motors.
In March 1915 Hornby had applied for a patent on electric motor and made enquiries in the USA for the production over there
This new 4 Volt motor was exported to England by Meccano; it is described in Love and Gamble on page 62. All 4 Volt motors have the "Made in USA" marking. It is reported that Lionel produced the first motors for the UK and USA Market
